Inspector H. J. Knight states as follows:-
On this Sunday at 1 p.m. on passing the
complainants' shop, I first met the male complainant and then
the female complainant. This was in the street. I asked them
why they had not been to see me lately and suggested that the
lady should take my chair and that I and her husband should walk.
We all went up to my house, and went on to the verandah. They
stayed some time and went away. I called at their house in the
evening. When she was up in my house she promised to get me a
girl who was to come up to my house that evening. When I went
into No. 40 she was not there. She came from the house opposite.
She went back again and I went after her. I did not chase her
into No. 45 as she suggests. I went back to her house but did
not upset anything. I did not put out the light as suggested. I
went to No. 40 East Street because I have known the two com-
-Plainants between 5 and 6 years. I do not know whether the
female complainant went out by the back door of No.
broke a pane of glass as mentioned in charge 3. I admit the
truth of charge 4. Many Inspectors do this. I was under the
influence of liquor that day. I only went 7 or 8 feet into
No. 45. Both complainants had been to my house when I was
living at the back of the Chung Hing Theatre. They had not
been to my house between 1905 and the 26th. September, 1909.
in my In the winter of 1904 and 1905 the complainants were
house about four times. I took the case removing coolie to go
with me and to carry a parcel for me. I was under the impress-
-ion that No. 45 was the family house of the complainants.
